Your definition of volleyball?
LA TUA DEFINIZIONE DI PALLAVOLO?
For me, volleyball is a fun sport, but more than anything it’s a microcosm of all the things in life we cherish and need learn, i.e., to be good friends, humans, leaders, to deal with adversity, to be challenged, heartbreak, triumph, etc. What it teaches, and the opportunities it provides for those of us that play it, are quite unique. Volleyball is a platform for growth and evolution.
Per me, la pallavolo è uno sport divertente, ma più che altro si tratta di un microcosmo di tutte le cose che amiamo e che abbiamo bisogno di imparare: imparare ad essere buoni amici, ad essere umani, ad essere leader, imparare ad affrontare le avversità, a mettersi in discussione, a provare emozioni forti, pronti al trionfo. E altro. Quel che la pallavolo insegna, e le opportunità che offre a noi che giochiamo, sono tutte cose abbastanza uniche. La pallavolo è una piattaforma per la crescita e l’evoluzione umana.
When did you start to play?
QUANDO HAI INIZIATO A GIOCARE?
I started to play volleyball when I was 14 years old. It was my first year of high school and it looked like “fun” and I really wanted to try to play a team sport.
Ho iniziato a giocare a pallavolo quando avevo 14 anni. Era il mio primo anno di scuola superiore e sembrava divertente. Così, ho voluto provare a giocare uno sport di squadra.
The best moment of your career?
IL MOMENTO PIÙ BELLO DELLA TUA CARRIERA?
I’ve won a few championships, but the most memorable moments of my career have been walking in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. It’s a surreal yet all encompassing moment in an athlete’s life.
Ho vinto qualche campionato, ma il momento più memorabile della mia carriera è stato camminare durante la cerimonia di apertura dei Giochi olimpici. E’ un’esperienza surreale per la vita di un’atleta.
The most important score that you made?
IL PUNTO PIÙ IMPORTANTE CHE HAI FATTO?
To be honest, I have a difficult time remembering the plays in volleyball…most of my memories of the last 10 years with national team or professional clubs are of the moments with the girls. Those are the most important to me. I’ve made many “saves” or defended many balls without a block, etc., but they are all of the same importance to me as making the easy plays.
In tutta onestà, ho difficoltà a ricordare i momenti di gioco… la maggior parte dei miei ricordi degli ultimi 10 anni con la nazionale o con i club professionistici sono i momenti passati con le ragazze, con le mie compagne. Questi sono i momenti più importanti per me. Ho fatto molti salvataggi, ho difeso molte palle senza muro, ecc. Ma per me hanno tutti la stessa importanza.

To whom or what would you give up to volleyball?
PER CHI O CHE COSA RINUNCERESTI ALLA PALLAVOLO?
I will 100% stop playing volleyball on the day that I feel like I am no longer getting better or learning something new. I will stop to play for sure after the next Olympic Games, even if I do not make the team, it is my time to finish. I’ve had a nice career, but I miss my family and friends more the older I get and the longer I am away from home.
Smetterò di giocare a pallavolo al 100% il giorno in cui mi sentirò di non poter migliorare o di non poter più imparare niente di nuovo. Mi fermerò sicuramente dopo le prossime Olimpiadi: credo sia il momento giusto. Ho avuto una bella carriera, ma, più invecchio e più a lungo sto lontano da casa, più mi mancano la mia famiglia e miei amici.
What music do you listen before going into the field?

On my playlist right now for my pre-game music is usually a lot of rap and hip-hop, for example Drake, T.I., Jessie J, Rae Sremmurd, Lil Wayne, Iggy Azalea, Jason Derulo, Wiz Khalifa, Nikki Minaj, etc. Also, it depends on my mood. Some days, I listen to John Mayer, Jack Johnson or Dave Matthews before the game.

SVELACI UN MOMENTO DI SPOGLIATOIO…
My first year playing in Poland, I had never really showered in a locker room together with a team before, let alone sat around naked and had conversations with people, but one of my teammates at the time changed her tampon in front of me…welcome to Europe for a naive American!
Durante il mio primo anno in Polonia. Non mi ero mai docciata letteralmente in uno spogliatoio con una squadra, prima di allora. Lasciata sola seduta sulle panche con intorno gente nuda, ebbi una conversazione con le persone intorno a me ma una delle mie compagne di squadra cambiò il suo tampax davanti a me. Un ottimo benvenuto in Europa per un’americana naif!
